Jeffrey W. Gilger, Ph.D., Associate Dean

Jeffrey W. Gilger is Professor and Associate Dean for Discovery and Faculty Development in the Purdue University College of Education. As Associate Dean he works to build research programs, infrastructure and faculty development mechanisms, and he consults on a large number of research projects across very diverse content areas. As part of his administrative duties he also represents the College to other units on and off the Purdue campus towards building collaborative relationships and he may represent the Dean's office on faculty-related issues.

Dr. Gilger's background includes an MS and certification in Clinical Child/School Psychology, and a PhD in Experimental/Developmental Psychology with a specialty in Human Behavioral Genetics. Gilger's scholarship is multidisciplinary spanning the clinical, educational and neuroscience disciplines, particularly as applied to the etiology of learning disorders.

He has published widely and has worked on a number of national and international projects. Gilger has been a reviewer for over 40 journals and publishers in the areas of education, psychology and medicine, and he has been on the Editorial or Review Boards for major journals and funding institutions such as NSF and NIH. Dr. Gilger's current research work includes the genetic and neurological basis of superior nonverbal abilities (particularly in LD children), and the application of virtual reality technology to the assessment and teaching of visual spatial processing. He is also involved in a large scale study assessing the efficacy of reading remediation programs in private clinics.
