You are admitted to the College of Education as a freshman or as a transfer student from another university through the Office of Admissions. You may also be admitted to the College of Education after your first semester at Purdue University via the Change of Degree Objective or CODO process.  You are admitted to your Teacher Education Program after having met Teacher Education Program GATE A requirements.  The GATE A requirements are outlined for you on your major program sheet and on the TEACHER Education web site.

  • May I pursue two majors in the College of Education?
If you are interested in obtaining a multiple major you should declare your intentions as early in your program as possible.  To qualify for a multiple major, you must complete all requirements for both majors. You may not receive two (2) Bachelor of Arts degrees even if you complete the major requirements for each.  All completed majors will be recorded on your final transcript, but only one diploma will be awarded.   Please see your advisor for details if completing addditional majors outside the College of Education.

  • If I repeat a course, what happens to the first grade I received in the course?
Repeating a course for a grade replaces the previous grade on your academic record. The most recent grade will be the one calculated in your overall GPA even if the most recent grade is lower than the first grade. Repeating a course for transfer credit will not replace the previous grade on your academic record. While the transfer credit will meet the course requirement, the previous grade will remain in your overall GPA calculation.

  • May I replace a grade in a particular course by taking a different course?
In certain instances this may be possible. The University must consider the two courses as equivalent. Please check with your academic advisor.

  • What do I do if I want to CODO (Change of Degree Objective) into the College of Education?
Informational meetings are offered throughout the fall and spring semesters.  Individual informational meetings are available throughout the summer and when classes are not in session.  The CODO Informational Meeting outlines the requirements of your major area of study and the requirements and deadlines to CODO. To obtain more information about CODO into the College of Education please visit our CODO information link.
