How To Send Computer Stuff To Purdue Salvage

  • Since your department owns the computer in question, your department must send it to Purdue Salvage by completing a Form 9 (available in the SOE business office).  Your department head will need to sign the paperwork.
  • You, your department, or your office must be the owner of any items that you are sending to salvage.  Your department head will need to sign and authorize all salvaging activities.  Please do not send salvage items the Education IT office area.  We do not have room for these items!  You will need to locate a temporary storage area in your department for salvage items.
  • Compile a list of items that are going to be sent to salvage, collecting:
    • Serial numbers
    • Purdue Identification Numbers (PID).  These are present on many items in the form of a sticker or stamped number.  Items valued over $2500.00 receive PID tags.
    • Descriptions of the items such as:  Dell P-III computer, or Dell Monitor
  • Complete a Form-9 and list all items that are going to salvage with their Serial and PID numbers.
  • Some stuff such as keyboards, mice, etc., will not have PID numbers.  So just list them in groups, one group per line.  For example, if you are sending 10 keyboards to salvage, simply denote on the Form-9 (on a single line): 10 keyboards
  • Denote the condition of each item:  working, dead, cannibalized.
  • If an item has been cannibalized, it does not need to be sent to salvage and will be removed from the property accounting database.  You should dispose of these items appropriately.
  • Submit the Form-9 to your business office.
  • Store the items and wait.  Our experience has been that it may take up to six weeks for the salvage crew to arrive and pick up the items.
  • If you have specific questions for the salvage crew, feel free to contact Mike Grenat at 742-7386 (off campus number).
