Early Field Experience

Field experiences in a variety of school and grade level settings prior to student teaching constitute an essential aspect of the standards for the Teacher Education Program. Field experiences courses in both the Curriculum and Instruction and Educational Studies departments help students understand the nature of teaching by allowing them to observe classes, interact with mentor teachers, and appreciate teaching as a life-long commitment to learning. These experiences offer the students the opportunity to reflect upon learning as they observe, assist, plan and ultimately student teach. Please see this document for Guidelines regarding Early Field Experiences: (PDF)

Additionally, students are expected to exhibit professional conduct.  If a student has a deficiency regarding professional behavior, a Dispositional Assessment Form (DOC) may be utilized by any faculty member, staff member, or classroom teacher. The purpose of this form is to make the student aware of the problem and devise a way to remedy the deficiency.
