  • I’ve applied to student teach, but now I want to change my placement preference. What should I do?
Please contact Jim Gilligan, the Student Teaching Placement Coordinator, if you need to make any changes to your placement preferences.  Our ability to accommodate any requested change will depend upon the status of your application (waiting to be sent, pending, or placed).  If you have already been placed and need to switch your placement, please see below.

  • I need to postpone my student teaching for one semester. What should I do?
Please notify your academic advisor and Jim Gilligan, the Student Teaching Placement Coordinator, as soon as you know you will need to postpone your student teaching for one semester.  We will update your file and delay your placement by one semester.  If you have already been placed and you need to postpone your placement, please let us know if you wish to retain the same placement or if you will need an entirely different placement.

  • I need to postpone my student teaching for two semesters or more. What should I do?
Please notify your academic advisor and Jim Gilligan, the Student Teaching Placement Coordinator, as soon as you know you will need to postpone your student teaching for two semesters or more.  We will destroy your file.  If you have already been placed, we will cancel your placement unless there is some compelling reason to retain it.  You will then need to begin the application process all over again.

  • I’ve already received my placement, but I want to switch it to a different school. What should I do?
You will need to contact Jim Gilligan, the Student Teaching Placement Coordinator, to discuss the possibility of switching an existing placement.  Under certain circumstances, we might be able to accommodate your request. Please understand, however, that the timing of your request and other factors beyond our control might prevent us from switching your placement.  You will be asked to sign a form acknowledging that you are requesting a new placement and that you understand the potential consequences of this request.
