Professional Development Schools
The College of Education has partnerships with 56 professional development schools in Indiana. A professional development school is an elementary, middle, or high school that works collaboratively with faculty to develop and demonstrate exemplary learning practices, provide field-based preparation for preservice teacher education candidates, and discover new educational knowledge.
Teacher Education Field Experiences and Student Teaching

Support Programs
Synergy Grants:
Purpose: To support research and development projects that will strengthen preparatory education, improve the learning and development of P-12 students, and create synergistic, discovery-oriented partnerships among Purdue University faculty and Indiana's P-12 teachers, counselors, and administrators. Supported projects must address the goals of the Holmes Partnership and be conducted in a school that agrees to participate in the Purdue Professional Development School (PDS) network for the duration of the project.
The Holmes Partnership: The Holmes Partnership is a consortium of nearly 100 American research universities committed to making programs of teacher preparation more rigorous and connected?to liberal arts education, to research on learning and teaching, and to best-practice in the schools. The Holmes Partnership suggests six goals for Professional Development School Partnerships:
- High quality professional preparation
- Simultaneous renewal
- Equity, diversity, and cultural competence
- Scholarly inquiry and programs of research
- School and university-based faculty development
- Policy initiation
Application Process:
Purdue Education Faculty and personnel from one or more P-12 PDS partnership schools work together to develop a proposal for funding of a research and development project following the guidelines on the application (Due 4/15/07) .
Each member of the PDS Synergy Grants Committee completes an evaluation rubric for each proposal and the Committee then prioritizes proposals and selects projects for funding during the following academic year.
