A person who has completed a teacher education program through Purdue University may apply for an original "standard" or "initial practitioner" license. Any student enrolled for the student teaching semester is given a packet from the Office of Professional Preparation and Licensure at the mandatory student teaching meeting presented by the Office of Field Experiences. This packet contains various forms required for licensing. If you cannot locate the packet, if you completed your program in previous years, or if you are applying for an administrative or school services license, obtain the documents from the office in Beering 3229 (licensure@purdue.edu) or download the necessary forms below.
At the time the Office of Professional Preparation and Licensure receives the license application, a postcard will be sent to you indicating that the packet is complete/incomplete and by what date your application will be sent to the Indiana Department of Education Division of Educator Licensing and Development with Purdue's recommendation. The Office of Professional Preparation and Licensure reviews course work, GPAs, testing, and other requirements to ensure that standards are met.
When the license application is sent to the Indiana Department of Education Division of Educator Licensing and Development, a letter will be sent to you indicating the teaching areas in which you have been recommended. This letter can serve as an eligibility letter for a school corporation for employment purposes.
Expect 4-6 weeks for the Indiana Department of Education Division of Educator Licensing and Development to process your application. The license will be sent directly to you.
