How to Obtain a Substitute Teaching Permit:

Contact the school corporation in which you wish to substitute teach to obtain requirements and an application.  Each school corporation determines the requirements for the substitute teachers within that school district. (See the Indiana School Directory for a listing of school corporations.)

Be recommended by the school corporation.  The superintendent or his/her designee will sign the completed application and forward it to the Indiana Department of Education Office of Educator Licensing and Development.

Be issued the substitute teaching permit by the Indiana Department of Education Office of Educator Licensing and Development. The certificate will be mailed to the school corporation.
