Teacher Education

Purdue University offers programs that prepare students for teaching in early childhood, middle childhood (elementary education), early adolescence (junior high/middle school), adolescence/young adulthood (secondary) and exceptional needs (special education). Program standards, curricula, and licensure are in accord with regulations promulgated by the State of Indiana and authorized by the National Council for Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE). Descriptions of performance-based programs vary by content areas.

Official performance-based program guidelines are available on this web site. Students seeking additional clarification and guidance should consult with an academic counselor or faculty advisor. A person who already holds a bachelor’s degree may wish to complete a teacher education program as a licensing only student.
