Dr. Jennifer Richardson selected as Purdue Teaching Academy Fellow

Dr. Jennifer Richardson, Professor of Learning Design and Technology in the Department of Curriculum and Instruction in the College of Education, has been inducted as a Fellow into the Purdue University Teaching Academy in recognition of outstanding and scholarly teaching in graduate, undergraduate, or engagement programs.

The Teaching Academy at Purdue strives to bring together the best teaching faculty and graduate students across campus to create a collective voice for teaching excellence. In partnership with the Office of the Provost and the Center for Instructional Excellence, the Teaching Academy sponsors a variety of programs and activities fostering educational creativity, innovation, and effectiveness both in- and outside the classroom.

Dr. Richardson earned a BA in Political Science and History from Russell Sage College; MS degrees in Educational Administration and Policy Studies, Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages, and Curriculum Design & Instructional Technology, all from University at Albany/SUNY; a CAS in Educational Research and Program Evaluation from University at Albany/SUNY, and a PhD in Curriculum and Instruction from University of Albany/SUNY.

Dr. Richardson joined the College of Education at Purdue in 2002 and was awarded the rank of Professor in 2016, with research focuses on distance education, in particular online learning environments. Specific areas of research and practice related to online learning include social aspects of online learning, including social presence, the Community of Inquiry (CoI), and strategies that not only enhance the learning environment for students, but also make it more efficient and effective for instructors. In parallel, Dr. Richardson’s work also looks to the preparation of instructional designers as it relates to developing effective and meaningful online learning environments.
