Initial Practitioner to Practitioner

Educators (instructional and administrative) who hold a valid Indiana Initial Practitioner license (two-year license) may be interested in converting to a Practitioner license (five-year license). There are two ways to convert your Initial Practitioner license to a Practitioner license:

• Option #1: Traditional IMAP Participation
• Option #2: Professional Growth Plan (PGP)

The Indiana Mentor and Assessment Program (IMAP) will be optional; alternative to IMAP is completion of a Professional Growth Plan with 40 PGP points. Two years teaching experience are still required to convert to a five-year practitioner license.

Converting a Reciprocal Permit to an Educator License

Once the Indiana Department of Education Office of Educator Licensing has completed an evaluation of one’s credentials, an Evaluation/Deficiency Letter may be sent through LVIS. In it, deficiencies that need to be fulfilled to establish an Indiana Educator License are stated. The following criteria are needed to convert a reciprocal permit to an educator license:

• Valid CPR/AED certification from an approved Indiana Department of Education approved provider that includes a hands-on skills/ in classroom demonstration
• Suicide Prevention Certificate demonstrating at least one hour of training
• Copy of deficiency letter. If you cannot locate your letter, log into your LVIS profile and view your Email log, you can print a copy of your deficiency letter from there.
• Proof of completed deficiencies.

You will complete a profile, an application, and pay for the application through the Indiana Department of Education’s online Licensing Verification and Information System, LVIS.
