The STEM Education Service Learning in Nanjing, China study abroad experience will focus on STEM service learning in a global context. Specifically, in collaboration with the Jiangsu Second Normal University (JSSNU) in Nanjing, China. We will offer a suite of courses in which undergraduate and graduate students will learn to work in teams to complete a project that actively engages them in meaningful and personally relevant service activities while building and strengthening their relationship with a K-12 rural school and community near Nanjing, China in the Jiangsu Province.
The program will take place from May 15 to June 11, 2017. For the 2017 service learning project, our students will:
This study abroad program is designed for any Purdue undergraduate or graduate student who has an interest in: (a) working with K-12 children in STEM classroom settings; (b) learning more about STEM education; and (c) teaching children how science, technology, engineering, and mathematics can be used to make a positive impact on their community. No teaching experience is necessary; however, we prefer that students who have at least a B average in Purdue science and mathematics courses.
