Kerry Hoffman is currently the Director of the Center for Literacy Education and Research (CLEAR) in the department of Curriculum and Instruction at Purdue University in West Lafayette, Indiana. She has served as a classroom teacher, university professor, state department assessment consultant, as well as a school and district administrator. Her interest in literacy as a vehicle for teaching and learning has spanned her entire career in education and her varied experiences have provided a number of diverse lenses to examine how literacy impacts teachers, students, administrators and policy issues.

Sarah’s Biography (show/hide)
Sarah F. Mahurt has worked as a classroom teacher, reading specialist, university professor, and district and state administrator with a focus on improving instruction and student achievement. Dr. Mahurt has worked with over 100 schools and 30 districts across several states and the Virgin Islands to improve teaching to improve student achievement. She previously led Purdue’s Literacy Collaborative program and literacy coach training for CLEAR.
Dr. Mahurt’s publications include a variety of articles and two books titled, Building Bridges from Primary to Intermediate Literacy and Reading to Learn in Secondary Classrooms. She has made numerous national and international presentations on that focus on literacy teaching and learning, and school reform in literacy education. Dr. Mahurt received the Celebrate Literacy Award from the St. Croix Chapter of the International Reading Association, the Teaching Excellence Award from the University of the Virgin Islands, and the Purdue University Department of Curriculum and Instruction Engagement Award for school reform efforts.
