Dr. David Stanley selected as Spring 2022 Purdue IMPACT fellow
Purdue College of Education faculty member Dr. David Stanley, Jr. has been selected as a fellow in the Spring 2022 cohort of Purdue University’s IMPACT program. Dr. Stanley is an Assistant Professor of Counseling Psychology in the Department of Educational Studies.
IMPACT is a Purdue faculty development program that supports instructors in enhancing their pedagogical practices in order to create autonomy-supportive and inclusive learning environments to foster student success.
“I decided to apply for IMPACT to make my EDPS 59100 (History and Systems of Psychology) course more inclusive and representative of all of psychology’s perspectives, including the experience of historically underrepresented groups,” said Dr. Stanley. He noted he also wants to better understand the internal transformation that needs to take place for him to be a more inclusive teacher and class planner, such as syllabus, required texts, and assignments.
The IMPACT program is set to begin in January 2022 and end in April 2022, with weekly cohort meetings. As a program fellow, Dr. Stanley has set the goal of implementing his redesigned EDPS 59100 course in Fall 2022. His work in the IMPACT program will be supported by the collaboration of faculty and staff across three units at Purdue – the Center for Instructional Excellence; Teaching and Learning Technologies; and Libraries and School of Information Studies.
“I am excited to learn how to challenge myself to think more critically as it pertains to designing courses that foster a student-centered learning environment,” explained Dr. Stanley.
After completing the IMPACT program, previous fellows reported significant increases in teaching satisfaction, significant improvements in pedagogical practices, significant increases in observed student engagement, and significant improvements in experiences teaching in classroom learning spaces.
