Indiana Department of Education Suicide Prevention Training Requirement for Licensure

As of July 1, 2013, all individuals applying for an initial teaching license (includes instructional, student services, and administrative licenses) are required to show evidence of successfully completing at least one hour of education and training on the prevention of child suicide and the recognition of signs that a student may be considering suicide.

This requirement can be met through completion of a training module through Purdue Online. There is a $50 fee for the module if you are not currently enrolled at the Purdue University West Lafayette campus.

You will receive a certificate after completing the module. You must upload to the state’s online licensing system when you apply for licensure. The certificate cannot be reissued; you will need to complete the module again if you lose it.

For a list of other suicide prevention training and resources, visit the Indiana Department of Education website.

Note: The completion of the module is meant to satisfy Indiana licensing requirements but is not meant to certify that the individual is trained or qualified in the area of suicide assessment.
