Purdue College of Education recipients receive 2021 UPCEA Regional Awards

Purdue College of Education’s Dr. Wanju Huang and a Purdue Education Instructional Design team are recipients of 2021 University Professional and Continuing Education Association (UPCEA) Regional Awards.

Dr. Huang, Clinical Assistant Professor of Learning Design and Technology is recipient of the 2021 UPCEA Central Region Excellence in Teaching Award. This award is presented to an individual who consistently demonstrates excellence in teaching credit or noncredit continuing education programs and mentoring learners in the UPCEA Central Region.

Dr. Huang joined Purdue College of Education in 2016, with research focused on technology for building online communities, online identities and communication, the educational use of augmented reality, and the effectiveness of faculty development programs.

A Purdue Education team of Instructional Designers received the 2021 UPCEA Central Region Excellence in Instructional Design Award. This award recognizes a credit or noncredit course or program which serves as a model of instructional design excellence for others by following industry best practices and employ leading-edge, sustainable methods and tools for use by educators to provide outstanding online educational experiences for learners.

Team members include Dr. Jennifer Richardson, Dr. Wanju Huang, Dr. Mohan Yang, Dr. Shamila Janakiraman, Dr. Secil Caskurlu, Daniela Castellanos-Reyes, Mohammad Shams Duha, and Iryna Ashby. The team was recognized for their work on the Purdue Repository for Online Teaching and Learning (PoRTAL) 2 project. 

UPCEA is a leading association for professional, continuing, and online education. Founded in 1915, UPCEA now serves a majority of leading public and private colleges and universities in North America and offers its members innovative conferences, seminars, research information, professional networking opportunities, and timely publications.

The awards will be presented at the UPCEA’s Central Regional Conference set to be held virtually on October 18-21.
