The Center for Literacy Education and Research (CLEAR) is a vibrant part of the College of Education at Purdue University. We continue to offer high quality professional learning opportunities, and our focus has expanded to include offerings which support teachers’ and administrators’ literacy and leadership efforts across all grades and all content areas.
CLEAR is becoming a more comprehensive center with a broad focus for professional learning and research. We also aim to continue to be a valued and contributing partner in Indiana and across the country to make a difference in literacy leadership, teaching, and learning.

The field of education is in the middle of a wave unprecedented change. Teachers and administrators are grappling with new standards, the new state requirements related to literacy, and new teacher evaluation expectations, along with the ongoing and complex demands of accountability. CLEAR embraces this challenge and the opportunity to not only engage with our P-12 colleagues to enhance their students’ literacy skills and development, but also to delve into these issues with our research-focused colleagues in the College of Education to study the impact of these sweeping changes.
