The Center for Literacy Education and Research (CLEAR) is a vibrant part of the College of Education at Purdue University. Our 20+ year history began with Reading Recovery, and building on that success we are beginning a new chapter. We will continue to offer high quality professional learning opportunities, but our focus has expanded to include offerings which support teachers’ and administrators’ literacy efforts across all grades, P-12, and all content areas.
While CLEAR is becoming a more comprehensive center, with a broader focus for professional learning and research, we also aim to continue to be a valued and contributing partner in our local community and across Indiana to make a difference in the lives of our students through literacy.

SPACE IS LIMITED
The field of education is in the middle of a wave unprecedented change. Teachers and administrators are grappling with new standards, the new state requirements related to literacy, and new teacher evaluation expectations, along with the ongoing and complex demands of accountability. CLEAR embraces this challenge and the opportunity to not only engage with our P-12 colleagues to enhance their students’ literacy skills and development, but also to delve into these issues with our research-focused colleagues in the College of Education to study the impact of these sweeping changes.
